Happy lady in bubble bath

A steaming tub, soothing music, a fragrant foam bath or bath bomb and absolutely no kids bashing on the bathroom door. Sounds like bliss, doesn’t it? Do you know what absolutely does not – and should not – be a part of this scene? Vaginal itching, irritation or infection. But it happens.

Why? Well, it all has to do with the pH of your vagina. It’s measured on a scale of 0 (acidic) to 14 (alkaline) and a healthy vaginal pH is anything between 3.8 and 4.5 because that’s the perfect environment needed for the good bacteria to thrive.1 The result? A healthy, happy vagina.

And while a bubble bath might seem innocent enough, its effects on your vagina are less than ideal. Most foam baths have a pH of around 9 or 10, and many contain alcohol, fragrances and other ingredients that can alter the pH balance of your vagina, causing irritation and increasing your chances of getting a yeast infection or Bacterial Vaginosis. Yikes!

But GynaGuard Foam Bath is specially formulated to clean and care for sensitive skin. It’s soap- and colourant-free and contains probiotics to soothe, hydrate and protect your intimate area. So not only do you reap the all-important psychological and emotional benefits of a long soak, but your vagina will actually thank you for it!

Ready to see what all the hype was about, I set out to test the GynaGuard Fragrance-Free Foam Bath first, which I should also mention is soap- and colour-free. I’ll admit I had reservations. I worried it wouldn’t stand up to my regular bubble bath. Would I feel like something was missing if it wasn’t fragranced? Would it have the same relaxing effect? Would it leave my skin dry? And – importantly – would it have the same level of ‘bubbliness’ I was used to?

I’m pleased to report that the shea butter and Vitamin E in the formulation felt soothing and nourishing on my skin, I didn’t even have to moisturise after my bath. And yes, it had just the right amount of ‘bubbliness’. In fact, I managed to make an impressive bubble beard (note: although it’s absolutely not recommended, I can confirm that the foam bath doesn’t have the typical ‘soapy’ taste of my regular foam bath – proof that it really is incredibly mild and gentle) and filmed the video below so you can see for yourself…

The next night I put the GynaGuard Lightly-Fragranced Foam Bath to the test. The result? It’s just as fabulous as the Fragrance-Free version! The gentle fragrance provides a calming vibe to accompany the bubble bath.

And here’s the part you all really want to know: since I’ve switched my regular bubble bath for the GynaGuard range, I’ve noticed changes in my vagina… in a good way! I’ve had no problems with itching or odour and I just feel fresher. I have a happy and healthy vagina. I will definitely be continuing with these foam baths and the positive experience I’ve had has convinced me to try more of the GynaGuard range.

At R79.99 for 475ml, it’s a bit pricier than its on-shelf alternatives. But can you really put a price on your vaginal health? I think not!
