If you, like much of the country, find yourselves an unwilling participant in #DryJanuary, you’ll be pleased to know that we’ve rounded up some of the very best alcohol-free drinks available on the South African market – these are so tasty you won’t even feel like you’re missing out!
Ceder’s distilled non-alcoholic gin
So you’re #SoberCurious (yes, that’s a thing) but you still fancy a G&T? No problem! Ceder’s is a distilled, non-alcoholic alt-gin (that’s an ‘alternative to gin’ in case you were wondering) produced in Sweden combining rare South African and classic gin botanicals with Swedish water. It’s almost as good as the real thing.
Vermont Virgin Cosmos & Mojitos
Say ‘hello’ to your new favourite sundowner: ready-to-drink Bloom Lavender Cranberry Cosmo. It checks all the healthy mocktail boxes: 0% alcohol, 0% added sugar, no artificial sweeteners, flavours or colourants and no preservatives. One thing it does have? Oodles of flavour. It also comes in Limon: a lime mint mojito.
Seedlip non-alcoholic spirits
A sophisticated drink that solves the ‘what to drink when you’re not drinking’ dilemma. We love that the founder started Seedlip in his own kitchen, using just a copper still and a book called The Art of Distillation. And, of course, we love that it’s delicious!
Devil’s Peak Hero
Ah, now you can enjoy all the refreshing flavours of an ice cold beer, minus the next day’s headache. Genius!
Despite all their mocktails being made in South Africa using only local ingredients, Fehmz Mocktails can be found as far abroad as the UAE. Locally, you’ll find them in specialty stores, delis, selected SPARs, convenience stores and restaurants. Choose from Lime Drop Nojito, Cherry Fizz, Pino Colada and more – there are even sugar-free options.
Here it is: the aperitif we’ve all been waiting for. With honeybush, grapefruit and blood orange flavours, this is a tasty, refreshing summer beverage for those who don’t like too-sweet drinks. Top it up with sparkling water or – when it’s allowed again – add a splash to your G&T. And, how cool is the name?!
Sit back and really relax with this hemp-extract infused (there’s 6mg in each can) sparkling water drink – available in grapefruit, watermelon and pineapple variants. And there are ZERO calories, so it’s just the good stuff in a can. Enjoy!
John Ross Virgin Distilled Botanicals
John Ross Virgin contains zero alcohol, sugar or kilojoules (well, there are 6kJ per 100ml, which is basically zero) but with the sophisticated taste – and style cred – of a high quality gin.
No need to feel left out when the girls go out for cocktails – this fabulous French import is just as good as the real thing. Zero, the alcohol free version of the original wine-based IceTropez cocktail is fruity, sparkly and utterly more-ish. In fact, they promise it will be ‘love at first sip’.
Marty’s Virgin Mary
Is it a mocktail? Is it a vitamin-packed juice? Who cares? It’s delicious AND good for you!
