A world first for juvenile mobility brand.
The new Maxi-Cosi car seat with built-in airbags is a groundbreaking innovation, and sets new standards in forward-facing child car seats. Our children are now going to be protected by the magic of airbags, and it’s a great thing. In a world where over 1.25 million people worldwide die each year on the road every day, more than 5,500 children are seriously injured on the road. This is why the use of car seats is so essential, and why airbag tech has such massive relevance.
Thanks to new technologies, the standard safety measure for adults now also became available for toddlers. In a massive technological development, juvenile mobility brand Maxi-Cosi is the first ever to incorporate airbags in a child car seat, making the standard safety measure for adults now available, and to become the norm for toddlers as well.
The world’s first child car seat with built-in airbags reduces the forces on a child’s neck and head significantly in the unfortunate event of a collision. The new Maxi-Cosi Air Safety technology keeps toddlers in a forward-facing position up to 55% safer than children who are transported in a ‘regular’ forward-facing child car seat.
While it is obviously a game-changer in the world of forward-facing child car seats, it is definitely a situation of ‘necessity is the mother of invention’ as toddlers need the protection of airbags even more than their strong limbed parents.
“Us parents all want the best for their child, especially when it comes to safe transport,” said mom-of-two, Lorrin Jarvis, Maxi-Cosi South Africa Marketing Manager. “The thing is, cars are designed to transport adults and while they have been getting more and more safe through the decades, child safety is mostly dependent on car seat legislation and experts. This is why, as a trusted brand for many parents, we’re constantly searching for innovations that improve the safety of children in cars even more. For this we always look beyond our own scope to new ideas in other markets.”
Airbag technology is far-reaching due to the very fact that it is so effective. It was the successful application in the technology of airbag jackets for motorcyclists and airbag seatbelts in ultralight aircraft that gave inspiration for the Maxi-Cosi Air Safety technology. A painstaking and thorough research and development program over an extended testing period culminated in this innovation that will become the new standard for forward-facing child car seats. The Maxi-Cosi Air Safety technology is a revolutionary step forward in child safety, giving parents greater peace of mind.
How it all works:
The new Maxi-Cosi’s airbag-enabled child car seat works with a crash detection system that detects a collision in 0.015 seconds. The system then inflates the airbags located in the two shoulder pads of the harness with cold air in the blink of an eye to cushion the head and neck. In the next second, the airbags automatically deflate.
The Maxi-Cosi Air Safety technology reduces the forces on a child’s neck vertebrae and head up to 55%, keeping toddlers significantly safer than in a standard forward-facing child car seat.
The first child car seat that will include the airbag is the Maxi-Cosi AxissFix Air. Next to the Maxi-Cosi Air Safety technology, the car seat features a 360° swivel, which can be used for both rearward- and forward-facing travel and is suitable for children whose height is between 61 and 105 centimetres. The AxissFix Air will be available in store from December 4th in the colours Nomad Black, Nomad Grey and Nomad Blue.
